For some people, being able to get rid of gophers and moles from their yard seems like an impossible dream. But let me tell you, it can be done. You just need to get the right information and help and a fail-safe method of removing them.
When I first arrived here, I thought gophers were cute little furry animals and moles were ugly little animals that lived out in the wild. I had no idea they could infest my land or the amount of damage they could cause. I originally thought I had a gopher problem but it wasn’t till someone told me that the shape of the mounds of dirt were different for moles and gophers that I realized I had gophers.
If it’s a mole that is infesting your property, the mounds of dirt will be circular with the entry hole in the middle of the mound. Did you know that moles don’t actually eat your plants or vegetation? They are not herbivores but eat mainly worms. But the reason they cause so much damage to your lawn is that when they are digging their tunnels they are uncovering rocks and roots, covering your lawn with dirt in places you don’t want it, and provided fresh soil for weeds to take root.
Gophers on the other hand, they do like to eat the roots and vegetation. And the mounds of dirt that they leave behind are fan or crescent shaped.
Understanding the habits and behaviors of these creatures is the first step to overcoming the problem and stopping all the time and money you have been wasting on trying to fix it.
